I718 Alloy is an age-hardenable material, used for its exceptional high yeild, tensile and creep-rupture properties at elevated temperatures up to 1300 F. I718 Alloy is slow to precipitation harden, so it is easy to use for welding. Also I718 Alloy is good for oxidation resistence up to 1800 F. |
Common specifications used for I718 Alloy are AMS 5662 (bar) and AMS 5962 (bar & wire). |

Heating to 1325 F +/-15 holding at heat for not less than eight hours, cooling at a rate of 100 F +/-15 degrees per hour to 1150 F +/-15, holding at 1150 F +/-15 for not less than eight hours, and air cooling. Instead of the 100 F degrees per hour cooling rate to 1150 F +/-15, product may be furnace cooled at any rate provided the time at 1150 F +/- 15 is adjusted to give a total precipitioan heat treat time of not less than 18 hours. |
